Summary

Broadly, secular christianity is simply embracing generosity, humility and forgiveness as the principal tools for living your life, while otherwise rejecting Christian mysticism. Could also have called it buddhism-lite or paraphrased-golden-rule. Unmotivated by reward/punishment in the afterlife, you use those three tools to make your life better today in the real world.

If you want a bible verse anyway, look to the last half of James 1:27 -- take care of widows and orphans in their distress, and keep yourself uncorrupted by the world.

Background

Abusive parents who used religion as a weapon left me with some Christianity-centric wounds that I needed to work out. A minor degree in philosophy helped me yet was an incomplete solution.

This rant is simply the net-result of that work. It gives me the peace-of-mind that I long had to live without. If it helps you too, then I'm even happier.
